A Romantic Styled Shoot at Sweeney Barn

Talk about an impulse decision totally paying off! Late Sunday evening I came across a Facebook post in a local photographer’s group, looking for one last person to attend a styled shoot the next day. I just so happened to be free (which is RARE!) and the mood board was gorgeous, so before I knew it, I signed up! I was a little nervous about impulsively heading to a venue two hours away, with no one I knew. But I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone!

Styled shoots are so much more than just a pretend wedding. It’s an opportunity to connect with other creatives in the wedding industry and try new things, without the pressures of an actual wedding day. They’re also a wonderful way to showcase what we’re capable of when we work together! I loved getting to meet fellow photographers and collaborate on how to approach each location. Even though we may be shooting in the exact same location, same day, same couples, we can all produce drastically different results. Photography truly is an art form!

The styled shoot took place at Sweeney Barn, a brand new wedding & event venue in Manassas, Virginia. Sweeney Barn is a unique blend of rustic and modern, featuring two expansive levels of open hosting space, tons of natural light, and stunning architecture throughout. There are so many prime portrait locations scattered around the property, and it’s an easy drive just outside DC.
