Emily & Jeff | A Richmond Engagement Session

Okay, it’s official. Richmond has totally stolen my heart! Despite driving by this city dozens of times in my life, I’d never actually been to Richmond until this trip. I knew the city had serious charm and have been dying to shoot there forever, and I finally got the opportunity with Emily and Jeff! We met in Richmond for their engagement session, and we couldn’t have asked for a sweeter couple to explore a new city with!

Leigh and I arrived a couple hours early to scout out a few locations. We knew we wanted to start on Monument Avenue, the CUTEST historical residential area in Richmond. The homes looked like they belonged in Europe! But the best surprise of all was the amazing foliage lining the street. It felt like we were in Narnia in the fall!

I always warn couples that the first 15 minutes of a shoot can feel awkward, but that was NOT the case for Emily and Jeff! It seemed like they were immediately comfortable in front of the camera, and Jeff couldn’t stop staring at Emily. It was adorable and made my job so easy!

We ended up calling a bit of an audible for our second location. The plan had been to go to Belle Isle, a park situated on a riverbank. However, Richmond is a HILLY city, and the sun sets fast in autumn. This is a perfect combination for bad lighting if we were to descend down to water level!

Instead, we trekked up to Libby Hill Park. This ended up being the PERFECT decision! The light was glowy and beautiful, and we got to enjoy sweeping views of Richmond as the sun slipped away. Emily and Jeff even brought a bottle of champagne to celebrate the occasion!

Please enjoy so many favorites from their session!

There’s something incredibly special about capturing couples in a place that feels like home… especially when that place is Brooklyn, NYC. For Danny and Paige, choosing their neighborhood of Williamsburg for their engagement session wasn’t just convenient. It was deeply personal. It’s where they live, walk their dog, grab coffee, and live their lives together. […]
