A Winter Maternity Session in Downtown Annapolis

Liz + Tyler

I’ve got such a special maternity session to share with you! Liz and I met over a decade ago at the University of Maryland, where we were both in the same sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. The days of Greek life may be long behind us, but I’m so thankful that our paths have crossed again!

Liz and Tyler are expecting a baby boy in just a few months, so we braved the January weather to create these maternity portraits and document this season of life for them. We were treated to relatively mild temps, and honestly, you can hardly even tell these were shot in the dead of winter! Location choice plays a crucial role in avoiding dead trees and brown, drab surroundings, and I’m so glad they trusted me to choose the perfect locations!

It was actually Tyler that convinced Liz to book this maternity session, and I’m so glad he did! Maternity sessions can be a major source of anxiety for new moms. Not all of us experience the “glow” that everyone talks about, and body changes can be tough to deal with. But it’s such a fleeting time in a mother’s life, and I know Liz is going to be so glad to have these to share with her son someday!

Congratulations, Liz and Tyler! Can’t wait to meet baby boy soon!

The light shimmers across the water, the horizon stretches open, and every angle offers a new composition. Portraits […]

Many photographers talk about posing guides: where to place hands, how to stand, how to angle the body. And while posing is important, it’s not the only thing that makes a portrait feel alive. Understanding the key difference that could make or break your portraits, the distinction between posing and art direction, is something many […]
