A Classic Summer Wedding at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens

Katie & Jacob

All of you plant-lovers out there will LOVE this wedding! Katie and Jacob were married on a beautiful August day at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, which has to be one of the most unique and beautiful reception spaces I have EVER seen.

The venue is actually an atrium nestled among a sprawling garden in northern Virginia, and when I walked in, my jaw dropped to the floor! Natural light pours in from every direction, plants everywhere, and a small stream even runs through the atrium. It’s like walking into a garden wonderland, and it was the perfect location for Katie and Jacob’s wedding!

Speaking of Katie and Jacob – I truly can’t say enough good things about these two. They are incredibly kind and warm, and their friends and families welcomed me right in as part of the group. That’s probably because Katie and Jacob have already been together for over TEN years! They were actually high school sweethearts and have been building an incredible life together ever since. Their wedding felt like one big celebration of something that’s just meant to be, and I’m so glad I was the one to photograph it!

The day started with total cloud cover and a chance of rain, but it cleared out just as we arrived at the venue for their first look. In fact, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky for the rest of the day! We rolled through formal portraits in record time. I was so impressed with how the wedding party and families got through everything so efficiently! This also meant that everyone could actually go ENJOY cocktail hour after the ceremony – a total win/win.

Of course, we had to sneak out for a few more portraits at sunset. We strolled through the most beautiful garden, while Katie and Jacob soaked up finally being newlyweds. These portraits are some of my favorite of the entire day!

Way too many favorites are below. It was just too hard to narrow it down! Congratulations, Katie and Jacob! Have the best time on your honeymoon!

There’s something undeniably captivating about the waterfront. Maryland’s waterfront venues, whether tucked along the Chesapeake Bay, lining the Eastern Shore, or framed by historic piers, have a way of making portraits feel expansive without ever feeling empty. The light shimmers across the water, the horizon stretches open, and every angle offers a new composition. Portraits […]

Understanding the key difference that could make or break your portraits, the distinction between posing and art direction, is something many […]
