A Summer Engagement Session in Old Town Alexandria

Katie & Jacob

Better late than never, right?! Katie and Jacob’s wedding was last weekend, and before I can share images from their incredible day, I just had to share their engagement portraits first! After almost a year of following each other on social media, we finally got to meet in Old Town Alexandria for their engagement session earlier this summer. These two are the COOLEST and we hit it off immediately!

Katie and Jacob were high school sweethearts that followed their dreams and each other to New York City, where they currently live. The DC area is still home to them and it’s where their wedding would take place, so it only made sense to have their engagement session here, too!

We started in my favorite Old Town alleyway (yes, I have a favorite alleyway – it’s totally normal) and then headed to Prince Street for a few classic cobblestone street portraits. The light and their outfits were absolutely perfect – I’m totally obsessed with Katie’s dress!

My favorite thing about shooting in Old Town is that there are so many great portrait locations in an easy walking distance. We shot in four different locations in hardly any time at all! The short walks between locations gave us time to get to know each other and chat about the wedding plans – secretly, this is my favorite part of engagement sessions. It makes the wedding day go so much more smoothly!

We wrapped up the session in Founders Park, which was my favorite location of all. Just look at all that golden GLOW! Katie and Jacob headed right back to NYC afterward, but I’m so so glad they were able to make the trip down for this! I’d say these portraits were totally worth it!

Stay tuned for their wedding recap coming soon!

The light shimmers across the water, the horizon stretches open, and every angle offers a new composition. Portraits […]

Understanding the key difference that could make or break your portraits, the distinction between posing and art direction, is something many […]
