James and Shannon are engaged – and I had the honor of photographing the exact moment it happened for these two! They currently live in Tennessee now, but were planning a trip to the Annapolis area to visit Shannon’s family. As they began planning their trip, James knew it’d be the perfect opportunity to propose to Shannon with her family present to celebrate. So, once he realized that was what he wanted to do, he contacted me and we put a plan in motion to capture their proposal in Downtown Annapolis. Capturing their engagement required some stealth and focused planning – but we pulled it off and I couldn’t be happier for James and Shannon!
Surprise Proposal in Downtown Annapolis
The plan was simple: James would take Shannon for a casual lunch date. But, what Shannon thought was just a lunch date quickly turned into something much better! Instead of heading in for lunch, James dropped down on one knee in front of the Capital Hotel. I was carefully hidden across the street documenting the proposal and Shannon’s reaction to it all. It was such a dreamy and perfect proposal in Downtown Annapolis!
After a few moments, I introduced myself and we spent some time walking around Annapolis taking some celebratory portraits. It was so fun to be with James and Shannon RIGHT after they got engaged. The smiles and joy is unfiltered at that point (we all know it!) and it was really special to be able to capture it on film for all time for them both. I loved watching James and Shannon soaking it all in. Getting engaged is a really special moment in your story together – and it’s one of the reasons I love capturing proposals so much.
Shannon and James had a great afternoon. We walked by some of the cutest shops and buildings in Annapolis and they even grabbed a celebratory drink together. Some of my favorite moments came from right along the waterfront – but everything was just perfect. Downtown Annapolis is so pretty, especially this time of year! We had beautiful flowers, the chatter of the town, and the breeze from the waterfront.
I’m so happy that James asked me to capture the proposal and I hope that Shannon and James will treasure these portraits of their proposal in downtown Annapolis forever.
If you’re getting engaged, consider hiring a photographer, too! There’s something nice about knowing this huge moment in your lives will be professionally documented – and you don’t have to rely on your family or a friend to do so. Moments like this will be fun to look back on, especially as you go through the process of planning your dream wedding day.
