This sweet maternity session in Annapolis is so special to me. I photographed Liz and Tyler’s first son, Emmett’s, newborn photos a few years ago, so it’s extra special that I get to document their next baby’s first year as well! His name is Wyatt, and he’s expected to arrive in October. With that in mind, we planned a beautiful maternity session in Annapolis Maryland to document his amazing family who are anticipating his arrival!

Maternity Session in Annapolis at Terrapin Park
We met at Terrapin Park just outside Annapolis, Maryland for Liz’s maternity session. Baby Wyatt’s nursery will have a nautical aesthetic, so the beach at Terrapin Park lent itself perfectly to the theme. This particular park is always gorgeous and gave us several options for backdrops during the session – including the waterfront and more of a park feel, with greenery growing wildly.
Terrapin Park also gave Emmett plenty of space to run and play while I focused on portraits of Liz and Tyler. Working with families year after year is always so special to me. Not only do I get to capture the changes in their lives, but we all become so comfortable together – it makes our sessions a dream every time! Liz and Tyler definitely know what to expect with me and Emmett is quickly learning who I am and how fun our sessions can be!

Maternity Portraits with Maryland Photographer
Maternity sessions are one of my favorite genres to photograph. It’s so rewarding to be able to show expecting mothers just how beautiful they are, at a time when they may not be feeling their best. Pregnancy isn’t always easy – in fact, it’s often downright hard. Maternity portraits are a great way to commemorate this fleeting season in your life and become a treasured keepsake your child will love to look back on someday. They are a special time for any couple or family – and I think it’s important to document your pregnancy each time. Every one is different, and it signals a change in your family’s life!
I love that Liz and Tyler wanted to plan a maternity session in Annapolis that felt in line with Wyatt’s nursery, which will make it easier to display the final photos and to enjoy them for years to come.

Tips to Plan Your Maternity Session
While there’s no hard and fast rule, most mothers plan their maternity portraits between 28-32 weeks. It tends to be a sweet spot for many women, so they feel their bump is proudly displayed without feeling too tired or “big”. You can read more tips about scheduling your maternity session here! At the end of the day, I want you to feel comfortable and confident in your portraits!
Another question I’m often asked is what to wear for maternity photos. Liz had the right idea with a gorgeous gown. It was light and airy, allowing her to feel cool but look beautiful the entire session. Long skirts and dresses also allow for movement in your photos and we can play with them while hugging your bump! Ultimately, there is no wrong time to schedule photos or no wrong choice of what to wear. Your bump and pregnancy are yours and we want to document them in a meaningful way for your family!
