Baby Frances | An Earthy Newborn Session at Home

I am so excited to share this gorgeous earthy newborn session in Washington DC with you. This family is adorable and I’m thrilled we were able to slow down time and capture these special moments for them forever. Baby Frances was already 11 weeks old at the time of her session, if you can believe it! When her mom, Cassie, reached out to me, she mentioned Frances’ age and how fast time seemed to be flying by now that she was here. I’m sure many parents can relate to this, and preserving this season of life is exactly what I love to do! We knew that their newborn session wouldn’t feel like a traditional session for brand new newborns, but instead we were able to capture the interactions that are already blooming between Frances and her parents.

Newborn Session in Washington DC with Earthy Vibes

Frances was born at home, right in the living room, which meant having their family portraits now there is even more special! The room features abundant natural light and a fun 70’s aesthetic that fits the family perfectly, making it a dreamy location for this session. We wanted these portraits to feel like a snapshot of their everyday lives as a new family of three: snuggle time on the couch, playing on Frances’ playmat, and strolling in their garden. Her furry siblings joined us, as well, and I love that we could capture the entire family.

At 11 weeks, we’re also lucky enough to see some of Frances’ personality come out to play. She was smiling at her parents and engaged with them while they snuggled up on the couch. It’s definitely one of the perks of an older newborn session! Capturing these early interactions is special – the time really goes so fast and it’s nice to know that they will one day be there for Frances to look back on. Her session is also proof that no matter how old your baby is, we can plan the perfect newborn session in Washington DC! I love that we were able to freeze what life is like in this stage for Frances and her parents. The days really do go by too fast!

Summer Session with DC Newborn Photographer

As I do with any summer newborn session in Washington DC, we spent some time outdoors towards the end of the session. I find that babies – especially older ones – absolutely love the warm temperatures and abundant ambient noise that is found outside. These always end up being some of my favorite images from the session! For Frances’ session, we focused on two main areas of their yard. Her parents snuggled on a blanket with Frances in her moses basket, which was just so sweet. They all looked incredibly happy and relaxed together. It’s clear that this is something they enjoy doing to spend time together. That’s what sessions should always be about: what your life is like when I’m not around. They also have an adorable stone walkway near the house, which served as a backdrop for some of our last photos together in the session.

Frances, you are such a dream! I loved getting to know you and your parents during your newborn session in Washington DC! Your home is beautiful and you are all just so sweet! I am so glad that you reached out to capture your daughter’s early days. There’s never a time that’s “too late” to start capturing family memories, like these.
