When you have clients that love and appreciate art as much as Isabella and Jory, you find a way to showcase that love in photos. For them, that meant a National Gallery of Art engagement session. It turned out more perfect than I could have imagined. Including personal items or highlighting shared interests is something I always try to do in engagement sessions. It adds personality and so much meaning to the photos. The result is a final gallery that looks and feels authentically like you.

A Romantic Start at Constitution Gardens
We began Isabella and Jory’s session at Constitution Gardens in Washington, DC. We chose this lovely outdoor setting first so their adorable dog, Penelope, could join in. The park was idyllic, with ducks paddling through the pond and willow trees surrounding the water, which I think always adds a romantic touch to photos. We had the area completely to ourselves, which was so nice and allowed us to take our time and truly soak in the moment and the surroundings. The views of the Washington Monument from this location were the icing on the cake!

National Gallery of Art Engagement Session
After that, we headed to the National Gallery of Art which includes a beautiful blend of art and architecture, both of which Isabella and Jory love. We took our time strolling through the galleries, admiring Impressionist art and marveling at the works around us. The museum provided a classic and timeless setting for their engagement portraits. Between the beautiful works of art, the grandeur of the building itself, and Isabella and Jory’s undeniable chemistry, this session was one to remember.

Tips for an Art Museum Engagement Session
An art museum can be a breathtaking and meaningful backdrop for your engagement photos, but it does come with a few unique considerations. First, be sure to check photography policies in advance, as each museum will have its own photography rules. Always confirm the current policy before your session so there are no surprises on the day.
If possible, check when their off-peak hours are and visit the museum during that time. Typically, a weekday morning or early evening will be less crowded, which means you will have more freedom to explore and capture those quiet, intimate moments together.
I also suggest choosing timeless, refined outfits that will complement the naturally elegant atmosphere of art museums. Think neutral or muted tones, classic fabrics, and more formal attire.

Enjoy the Art!
Lastly, take a few moments to actually enjoy the exhibits! The way you react to the art, whether sharing a smile, leaning in to whisper about a favorite painting, or simply resting your head on your partner’s shoulder as you gaze together, creates authentic emotion that photographs beautifully.

Isabella and Jory mastered each of these. Watching them take in the art and share this moment together was truly special. I enjoyed capturing their love story at these two beautiful and iconic Washington DC locations. The dreamy setting of the Constitution Gardens and the luxurious and classic aesthetic of the National Gallery of Art provided a variety of scenery that gave them a gorgeous final gallery filled with romantic, timeless images.

Isabella and Jory are getting married next spring at the National Arboretum in Washington DC. They’ve got Emily from Simply Styled Events at the helm as their planner, so I already know it’s going to be an incredible celebration. Can’t wait to see them again in 2026 for the big day!
