Dan & Michelle | Autumnal Maternity Portraits at Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC

It’s been an amazing year for Michelle and Dan! I photographed their colorful, academia-inspired wedding at Meridian House back in March. Now, we met again for their autumnal maternity portraits at Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC to celebrate the upcoming arrival of their first child this winter. This is such an exciting time for them and I am beyond thrilled and honored to capture this special moment in their lives. I know they are going to be such amazing parents to their little one.

Autumnal Maternity Portraits at Rock Creek Park

As we were planning their maternity session, many of my go-to DC locations were closed due to the government shutdown. Luckily, Rock Creek Park was open and bursting with fall color. The foliage was beautiful! They couple walked along leaf covered paths and over rocky creek beds. The natural landscape painted a beautiful backdrop for their maternity portraits.

Fall Maternity Outfits

Dan and Michelle’s fall outfits complemented each other and the scenery perfectly. Michelle’s long-sleeved, burnt orange sweater dress was gorgeous! Not only did the color look amazing against the changing leaves, but it hugged her baby bump beautifully. Dan switched between his dark green sweater and a tan jacket over top for the pictures, both of which looked great next to Michelle and the fall landscape.

Michelle looked absolutely radiant. The ideal timeframe for maternity portraits is around 28-32 weeks. At this time, you’re past the early pregnancy fatigue and sickness, your baby bump is well defined, and you still have energy and feel well enough to be photographed. You definitely don’t want to do your maternity session during the final few weeks of your pregnancy, as moms tend to feel more tired and uncomfortable, and I always want you to feel good and comfortable during your session.

Another benefit to scheduling during around 28-32 is that it gives us some cushion in case your little one decides to make an early debut. We made sure to schedule Michelle’s portraits during this time and they were perfect!

I am so happy for this amazing couple. It was a joy to capture these fall maternity portraits for them and an honor to be invited back into their lives to document more of their story. Congratulations, Dan and Michelle!
