I’ve honestly lost track of how many times I’ve photographed this family now, and each time truly gets better and better! Sticking with one photographer over the years is one of the best things a family can do, because it allows everyone to feel more comfortable and genuinely enjoy the session. One thing is certain, working with this family never feels like work! Their relaxed family session at their beautiful home in Southern Maryland was an absolute dream. Their waterfront property always provides endless inspiration, and I love photographing here.

Relaxed Family Session at Home
The session took place in late summer, so we incorporated the quintessential Maryland tradition of crabbing off the family’s pier. When it comes to lifestyle family sessions, capturing families as they enjoy an activity together is one of my favorite things. This allows for truly candid, joy-filled moments that create a gallery full of memories, love, and connection. It’s also wonderful for children, as they tend to relax and have fun doing an activity they love rather than focusing on me and the camera. A little magic trick in my bag for family sessions this year has been my old Fuji point-and-shoot camera, which kids absolutely love. These three were no exception! They had so much fun playing with my camera and capturing their own memories. It’s such a fun way to get kids involved in the session and to pass on something that brings me so much joy!

Capturing Sweet Family Memories
Sessions like these remind me why I love lifestyle photography so much! They are about preserving real life exactly as it is right now. I think it is safe to say we all had a great time as the family relaxed and enjoyed their home and each other while I captured their sweet memories of this season of life.
