Love is not canceled just because large gatherings are! I genuinely love what weddings have become in 2020: relaxed, stress-free declarations of love surrounded by the people that matter most in the world. Jennifer and Patrick’s wedding day was exactly that! When their plans for a destination elopement had to be put on hold, they did a total 180 and opted for a casual wedding at home – literally!

Jennifer and Patrick live on a working farm in southern Maryland, and their home provided the perfect setting for their celebration. It was built by Patrick’s great-grandparents in the 1930s, with its location specifically chosen so that the house would overlook the most magical mulberry tree. This gorgeous tree is a treasured part of their family history, providing shade and a breeze after long days in the fields. So naturally, sharing their wedding meal under it was a must! Obviously we had to use it for portraits as well – my photographer’s heart was so happy!

Their home was just one of many personal details incorporated into Jenn and Patrick’s wedding day. Jennifer grew the flowers herself, and her flowerbeds gave me some serious garden envy. They were married in their home church, with just a handful of immediate family members in attendance. While we were at the ceremony, friends generously came over to style the most stunning table for their al fresco dinner under the mulberry tree!

The details were beautiful, but what really stood out to me were the kind, fun-loving personalities of this couple and their family. Jenn made a Talladega Nights reference faster than I could, which immediately told me they were most definitely my kind of people. Patrick is a farmer through-and-through, even working the morning of his wedding in order to get the harvest in. He’s a man of few words just like my husband, but the look on his face when he saw Jenn for the first time said everything!
