Emily & Bobby | A Charleston Engagement Session

dc wedding photographer

Oh, this session. I don’t think even Emily and Bobby know how special it was to me! By a twist of fate, we realized that we’d both be passing through Charleston on the same day (them headed south for a work trip, me headed north after a weekend in Florida). Naturally, we had to take advantage and meet for an engagement session!

Their session took place the week that I officially dropped down to part time at work, so that I’d have more time with my family and to manage the growing studio. And so I found myself, on a Monday afternoon, scouting the historic streets of downtown Charleston for portrait locations. If you’d told me two years ago that that’s what I’d be doing that day, I never would’ve believed you! And yet here I am, doing what I love for work and getting to serve couples in the most beautiful way. I am so thankful!

Just like in life, things don’t always go according to plan! Everything was going great during Emily & Bobby’s session. We were having fun getting warmed up in front of the camera and exploring the city together. Slowly though, I start to notice something: not only is it clouding over quickly, but the streets are also much emptier than they had been just a few hours ago! There’s a storm coming, but we decide to press on. Thank goodness for laid-back humans like these two!

As we reach Rainbow Row, the skies open up with pouring rain and whipping wind. Undeterred, Bobby pulled out an umbrella and we kept shooting! These images are some of my favorite of the whole session. They may not depict the glowing Spanish moss and colorful architecture I’d envisioned, but they demonstrate the easy going character of Emily and Bobby. That trait will serve you two well throughout life!

Thank you so much, you two, for meeting me in Charleston for this once in a lifetime session! I can’t wait for your wedding next year!
