Provie + Kyle
To say that we got lucky during this session would be an understatement! We started planning Provie and Kyle’s engagement session a few months ago with the goal of timing it around cherry blossom peak bloom. Given that the couple lives in DC and so much of their story takes place here, it made perfect sense to have their engagement session in the city!
As the session date approached, peak bloom abruptly moved up almost a full week – meaning we were going to miss the blooms. On top of that, the forecast was calling for strong winds and blistering cold the day we were set to meet. Not exactly an ideal situation, but Provie and Kyle handled it like champs and were still up for anything. You can barely even tell the wind chill was below freezing in these portraits!
We met at Constitution Gardens and made our way over to the War Memorial, two of my favorite locations for portraits in the city. They tend to be less crowded than the typical monument locations, while still offering beautiful views and the white marble that DC is known and loved for. After that, we figured we’d walk over to the Tidal Basin just to see if it was even accessible and if there were still blooms intact.
Imagine our surprise and excitement when not only did we find the cherry blossoms still absolutely beautiful, but the Tidal Basin open to pedestrians and relatively empty – even in the middle of the day! I’m so thrilled we were able to create these portraits that Provie had wanted after all, and I loved getting to know these two even more. If they can make freezing temperatures and strong winds look this good, their wedding at Stone Tower Winery next summer is going to be a breeze!
Enjoy a few favorites from Provie and Kyle’s engagement session!
