Jeni & Jonathan

Jeni and Jonathan’s wedding day was filled with love, freak storms, abundant Taylor Swift references, and the most gorgeous sunset glow I’ve seen in a long time! To say I’d been looking forward to this wedding is a major understatement. I had the best day meeting their friends and family, who took me right in as if I was part of the celebration. It was the sweetest celebration at a beautiful new southern Maryland venue, Honey’s Harvest. Jeni knew she’d be an AWP bride before the ring was on, and it was such an honor to document their love story!

Jeni and Jonathan were introduced by mutual friends through the Newtowne Players, the theater group that Jonathan is apart of. It all started when Jeni made a joke on social media about being single, but little did she know that it prompted Jonathan to make a move. Long story short, they were a perfect match for each other! When he proposed, Jonathan made sure to incorporate a few of Jeni’s favorite things: Taylor Swift, and their cat, Lina. That’s how you get the girl!

The forecast looked beautiful for their wedding day, so imagine our surprise when dark clouds rolled in just before their first look was scheduled to take place. Nevertheless, Jeni maintained her composure, taking a few extra moments to breathe and soak in the significance of the day. I was running around like a mad woman ensuring we got as many portraits done indoors as possible. The storm passed by almost as quickly as it arrived, and from then on, we were out of the woods! The day was cooler than usual for May, and super windy, but nothing we couldn’t handle.

One of my favorite personal details was definitely the ceremony! Jeni and Jonathan were married by the friend that introduced them, and she filled their ceremony with heartfelt memories and warm humor. It’s nice to have a friend that knows you all too well and can fill such a pivotal role on the wedding day! It seems like more and more of my couples are opting to have loved ones officiate their ceremonies, and I’m ready for it!

Jeni also carried two small bouquet charms that held photos of her late grandmother, Hannah, who passed away in recent years. It was such a meaningful way to physically have her there with us all day long.

As the daylight began to fade, we headed out to the field for a few last portraits. Just wait until you see all that glow! I was in heaven out in that field, standing on picnic tables to get the perfect angle but it was so worth it! The reception was the perfect opportunity for guests to shake it off. The music was great, the dance floor stayed packed, and – true to form – Jonathan danced so hard that he ripped his pants! Cutouts of the couples cat, Lina, even made a surprise appearance on the dance floor!

The evening wound down with a private last dance. Today was a fairlytale, and I’m so thankful to have had a front row seat from start to finish! Jeni and Jonathan, I’m absolutely thrilled for you and I hope your wedding was even better than your wildest dreams! Have the best time in Africa on your honeymoon this summer!
