An Autumn Proposal at William Paca House in Annapolis, Maryland

Tyler & Joanna

With zero exceptions, proposals are BY FAR the thing I get most nervous to photograph! There are so many uncontrollable variables at work, and yet they’re still so exciting to be a part of. This proposal was particularly special, as the groom-to-be, Tyler, is one of my husband’s closest friends! We’ve all known each other for most of our lives, and Adam was actually there the night that Tyler and Joanna met, so I was really honored when Tyler hired me to capture the proposal.

Joanna and Tyler live in Annapolis now, so it was a natural location choice. He wanted a more private location, so we chose William Paca House for its gardens and pear orchard. I love this location not just because it’s beautiful, but also because it’s usually not at all crowded. Fortunately that was the case this day, too!

These two first met in DC in 2019, when the Washington Nationals won the World Series. Joanna and Tyler were both out celebrating with their respective friend groups, just happened to meet, and have been together ever since! Now they’re planning a fall 2022 wedding, and I’m so excited to get to attend as a guest!

After the proposal, we explored the gardens at William Paca House for a few more portraits, then it was off to a celebratory lunch with friends and family. Congrats, you two!

The light shimmers across the water, the horizon stretches open, and every angle offers a new composition. Portraits […]
