A Romantic Old Town Alexandria Engagement Session

Felicia & Jacob

Get ready to see one of my favorite engagement sessions from the whirlwind that was fall 2021! I met Felicia and Jacob on a warm September evening in one of my favorite locations – Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Between the cobblestone streets, historic residential areas, and beautiful gardens and parks, it’s easy to see why this spot is such a favorite with AWP couples!

During the planning process, Felicia and Jacob were mulling between Old Town or downtown DC for their engagement session. For couples wanting to avoid the crowds, parking, and permit fees that come with shooting in DC, I always recommend Old Town as a lovely alternative!

Going into the session, Felicia felt some apprehension about being photographed, which is TOTALLY normal! Unless you’re a professional model, having your portrait taken is going to feel a little awkward at first. In fact, this is exactly why having an engagement session with your wedding photographer is so important!

That time together gives you an opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera and to develop a relationship with your photographer, both of which lead to BETTER wedding photos! Lean in and trust the process during your engagement session, just like Felicia and Jacob did, and you’ll love the results.

Speaking of the couple, they were such a delight to work with! It took no time at all before we felt like old friends, and before too long, they were rocking all sorts of advanced poses and prompts. The last series of photos in the garden are my absolute favorite!

Stay tuned for their wedding recap coming this fall!
