I absolutely adore the Henderson family! I’ve photographed them several times, which always helps our sessions run more smoothly. It’s more like meeting old friends and the kids know me, so they instantly open up. This year, we met up at the Tidal Basin in Washington DC for cherry blossom family portraits! Their session turned out beautifully and I’m so happy that we could make it happen.
Cherry Blossom Portraits at the Tidal Basin
The Tidal Basin is one of my favorite spots for cherry blossom sessions in DC. It puts us right next to the Jefferson Memorial. In one location, we can capture the beautiful pink blossoms, the water, and the classic marble from the area’s monuments. It keeps things super easy – which is always important with young children. For their spring session, the Henderons chose the perfect outfits! I love that mom’s outfit brought the pale pinks into their palette, her boys wore neutrals, and their little girl could be bundled up in a white sweater, too. All together, they looked amazing for their cherry blossom portraits at the Tidal Basin!
Tips for Washington DC Cherry Blossom Portraits
For this session, we met on a weekday which is crucial for crowd control. The Tidal Basin is overflowing with tourists on weekends during peak bloom, so it’s important to be flexible and select a weekday date for your cherry blossom portrait session. In fact, choosing a weekday is non-negotiable for me. In order to achieve the portraits we both want, this is a must! To the Henderson family, thank you for asking me to capture these sweet portraits! I loved meeting your newest member and I can’t wait to see you again soon (I hope!).
