A Relaxed Newborn Session at Home in Washington, DC

Welcome to the world, Bonnie! I’m so excited to share this sweet girl’s newborn session at home in Washington DC today! I photographed Lindsey and Andrew’s maternity session earlier this spring at Washington National Cathedral. Luckily we fit in their maternity session when we did, because Bonnie was born just 48 hours afterwards. Now I’ve had the chance to meet Bonnie and capture her newborn session at home! It’s such an honor to continue documenting milestone moments for my clients and I’m so happy Lindsey and Andrew asked me to photograph this one for their family! We chose a relaxed newborn session at their home in Washington DC so they could just snuggle in with their new baby girl!

Newborn Session at Home in Washington DC

Bonnie’s nursery has a familiar past resident – her own dad! Yes, the family now lives in what was once Andrew’s childhood home. He grew up in this house and purchased it from his parents a few years ago, and now he and Lindsey are raising their own family there! This honestly made their newborn portraits more emotional and much more meaningful. Lindsey and Andrew cuddled their new baby girl in the very places that Andrew once spent time as a boy. It was sweet watching them throughout their family home together.

Newborn Portraits in the Nursery

Lindsey and Andrew chose a soft, classic palette of blush pinks and neutrals for Bonnie’s nursery, with a Peter Rabbit motif throughout. My favorite feature is the stunning brass crib – a perfect statement piece to tie the room together. When I photograph newborn sessions, I always add extra time to capture all of the details the parents so carefully chose to fill the space. Before you know it, these rooms become spaces for your babies to become toddlers and children and everything changes. I want to be sure that you have something to look back on and remember those early days – and all the tiny little clothes, shoes, and details filling your baby’s nursery after they’re long gone out of sight.

Why Choose a Lifestyle Newborn Session

Lifestyle newborn sessions are always laid back and many parents find they can relax more easily – knowing that their baby’s diapers and clean clothes are right down the hallway. No one has to pack up a small baby and take them to a new place just days after giving birth. It’s one of the reasons I adore these sessions. It’s truly about being comfortable, all while capturing once-in-a-lifetime memories in your favorite spaces. Read more about lifestyle v. studio newborn portraits here!

Lindsey, Andrew, and Bonnie, thank you for welcoming me to your home. It was so special to capture this newborn session for you all!

I’ve honestly lost track of how many times I’ve photographed this family now, and each time truly gets better and better! Sticking with one photographer over the years is one of the best things a family can do, because it allows everyone to feel more comfortable and genuinely enjoy the session. One thing is certain, […]

When you have clients that love and appreciate art as much as Isabella and Jory, you find a way to showcase that love in photos. For them, that meant a National Gallery of Art engagement session. It turned out more perfect than I could have imagined. Including personal items or highlighting shared interests is something […]

When you think of wedding photography, your mind probably goes straight to the romantic wedding portraits, like the epic first kiss at the ceremony, or the newlywed’s first dance. While these wedding day moments are essential and some of my favorites to capture, there are other photos that are just as important but often overlooked […]
