Glitter Sessions Survival Guide

annapolis family photographer

Glitter sessions are right around the corner, so I wrote this guide to help you prepare and get the best of your session! These are SO fun and festive for the holidays – and way less messy than you might think! My girls and I had a blast creating these images, and I can’t wait to photograph your little ones enjoying the fun, too! annapolis family photographer

1. Suggested attire: FESTIVE!

This is such a simple, versatile set, you can really make it anything you want! The backdrop is a warm shade of taupe, and the glitter is gold. I opted for blush and neutrals for my girls, because I didn’t want the images to feel too overly Christmasy. We’re having one of the images made into a canvas for their playroom, so I needed it to go well with our home decor! Shades of cream, grey, black, blush, navy, or even a bold red will look great. I suggest dressier outfits, such as holiday dresses for the girls and cozy sweaters for the boys. We will most likely go shoeless during the session, so don’t worry too much about shoes or tights! Please have children arrive in their attire so that we can spend more time playing and photographing.

2. Stay positive!

I always slide this one in to my parent guides for little kids. No threats or telling them to smile or be good, please! Simply tell the kiddos they’re headed to go do something fun, and that they need to be good listeners. We’ll have plenty of time to get them loosened up and having fun, which produces genuine smiles. I recommend rewarding them with an ice cream date or other treat after the session – works like a charm!

3. Things to pack

I recommend bringing a second set of clothes to change into once we’re done. Most of the glitter will be on their feet and palms of their hands, and is pretty easily removed with baby powder and a makeup brush. I’ll have those items on hand, or pack your own away in the car just in case! For young children, please bring their favorite toy or stuffed animal as well.

4. HAVE FUN!

The best advice I can give is to just give the kids space to let loose and play! We’ll have festive music playing, as well as snacks and cold drinks on hand for the spectators. Afterward, you’ll receive your images via an online gallery within one week, to ensure plenty of time to use as gifts! Professional prints and canvases can also be ordered straight from the gallery.

That’s it for now! Can’t wait to have a glitter party with you soon!

Still need to snag your session? There are a few openings still available on December 1st! Sign up instantly online here.
