A Virginia Autumn Styled Shoot | Rachel May Workshop Recap

Annapolis wedding photographer

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to attend Rachel Clarke’s very first workshop, and I am SO thankful for the experience! I first discovered her work just a few weeks ago while scrolling through Instagram and when I saw the itinerary for the workshop, I just had to jump at the chance. Led by Rachel May Photography and Adriana Marie Events, we learned about vendor communications, creating an elevated brand, participated in a stunning styled shoot, and got new headshots!

I’d never been to a multi-day workshop of any sort, and honestly had no idea what to expect. The workshop was held at the Catesby Estate, in rural Virginia on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I arrived at the venue and instantly felt at home. Just look at this place!

Every single detail was immaculately thought out, and we ate like KINGS. Mulled wine and welcome bags awaited us at the front door, just the start of a few days full of treats. Blue Water Kitchen and Scout’s Bake Shop catered every lunch, dinner, and dessert – including the most delicious caramel apples. At night we’d stay up late chatting and playing games, and I loved getting to know all of the other attendees and learning from them, too! Jon and Noelle from The FIND Lab attended the workshop too, teaching us all about film and totally convincing me that I NEED to add a film camera to my lineup.

Best of all, I came away with a renewed love for weddings and some exciting plans for the future. I’ll be spending the “off” season creating content for brides, networking with local wedding vendors, and maybe even heading up a few styled shoots of my own!

But for now, please enjoy a few favorites from this STUNNING styled shoot! What a refreshing take on a fall color palette. My favorite was all the little heirloom details and romantic touches, and the groom’s crushed velvet jacket – which was actually his!

engaged couple walks through Williamsburg NYC

There’s something incredibly special about capturing couples in a place that feels like home… especially when that place is Brooklyn, NYC. For Danny and Paige, choosing their neighborhood of Williamsburg for their engagement session wasn’t just convenient. It was deeply personal. It’s where they live, walk their dog, grab coffee, and live their lives together. […]
