A DC Cherry Blossom Engagement Session | Nicole & Andy

Confession time … I’ve been stalling on blogging this session. Why? Because it’s the last session of my way-too-brief spring portrait season, thanks to coronavirus. With DC much less crowded than usual, the cherry blossoms at peak bloom, and a super sweet couple, I could’t have asked for a better engagement session!

I met Nicole and Andy near the Tidal Basin at sunrise, just days before non-essential businesses were closed and stay-in-place orders were issued. It’s always a little awkward being photographed, but these two really had their work cut out for them thanks to social distancing! Despite the challenges, these two were total pros in no time!

Nicole and Andy have been dating since high school, so it’s no surprise that they’re naturals in front of the camera together! They’re both from Pennsylvania, but moved to the DC area for college and work. Washington DC has become a second home to them, so it was the perfect location for their engagement session!

While the city was certainly less crowded than normal, the Tidal Basin was still WAY too crowded to practice social distancing. Fortunately I’d scouted out a few hidden gem locations nearby! The DC War Memorial and Constitution Gardens gave us all the white marble, cherry blossoms, and monument views we could handle, without another person in sight.

This is such an uncertain time, and I’m so thankful for the shred of normalcy Nicole and Andy’s engagement session provided. It was refreshing to explore the city and get to know these two, even if only for a little while. Enjoy a few favorites from their engagement session!

How adorable is Baby Wyatt? We captured a darling studio milestone session in Southern Maryland at Costola Studio with his family! Wyatt is enrolled in the AWP Membership Program, where families receive four full sessions during a baby’s first year. It was so lovely to see him for this session – right before his cleft […]

Congratulations to Lindsay and Kyler! They’re welcoming a baby girl, Florence, this month. I can’t wait to meet her in just a few weeks. To celebrate her upcoming arrival, Lindsay and Kyler planned a maternity session at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. I photographed Lindsay and Kyler’s wedding back in 2021, so it […]
