A Green Spring Gardens Engagement Session

Emily & Jesse

Fall typically means engagement sessions for the next year’s wedding couples, and this fall is no exception! After months of following each other on social media, I finally got to meet Jesse and Emily in person for their engagement session last week. We met at Green Spring Gardens in northern Virginia on a gorgeous fall afternoon and instantly felt like old friends!

The park was teeming with flora and blooms, which wasn’t just pretty to look at – it was fun to explore, too! Jesse’s dad is a horticulturist and has passed that hobby on to his son, so while Emily and I were just blown away by the beauty of the gardens, Jesse enjoyed exploring the grounds and impressing us with his knowledge of all the plants!

The weather was perfect, so we wandered all over the grounds and even down a wooded path in search of great light. To say we found it is a serious understatement! I’m so thrilled with how much warm, glowy light is in these portraits!

Beautiful engagement photos are great, but my favorite part of these sessions is getting to know my couples. For example, I now know that Emily’s engagement ring is a treasured family heirloom (scroll down to see!) and that Jesse was homeschooled all throughout his childhood. Feeling like friends makes me look forward to wedding days even more, and I already know that their June wedding is going to be a STUNNER!

Congratulations, you two! Enjoy a few faves from Jesse & Emily’s engagement session!

I’ve honestly lost track of how many times I’ve photographed this family now, and each time truly gets better and better! Sticking with one photographer over the years is one of the best things a family can do, because it allows everyone to feel more comfortable and genuinely enjoy the session. One thing is certain, […]

When you have clients that love and appreciate art as much as Isabella and Jory, you find a way to showcase that love in photos. For them, that meant a National Gallery of Art engagement session. It turned out more perfect than I could have imagined. Including personal items or highlighting shared interests is something […]

When you think of wedding photography, your mind probably goes straight to the romantic wedding portraits, like the epic first kiss at the ceremony, or the newlywed’s first dance. While these wedding day moments are essential and some of my favorites to capture, there are other photos that are just as important but often overlooked […]
