UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2020: WHOA! I had no idea how popular this post would be when I first wrote it almost a year ago. Since then I’ve had countless couples find me (and their dream venues!) through this post, so I figured it was time to update the list! With my wedding schedule shortened thanks to COVID, I used the summer to tour and photograph several venues around southern Maryland. Please enjoy scrolling through some of the best wedding venues southern Maryland has to offer!

I know how hard it can be to find the perfect venue. There are so many to choose from, and this one choice will shape every aspect of your wedding! Considering that I’m a southern Maryland native, had my own wedding right here in Calvert County, and now work at local venues across the area as a wedding photographer, this post is LONG overdue! If you’re planning a southern Maryland wedding, this post is a must-read. I hope these tips help in your wedding planning!

Herrington on the Bay | North Beach, Maryland

If the tropics are calling your name but you’d rather not have to use your passport, you’re going to love Herrington on the Bay! Arriving at the venue feels like stepping into the Florida Keys, with lush tropical landscaping and sweeping views of the Chesapeake Bay. The property features both a tented reception and an indoor reception space, as well as lodging and tons of amenities for your guests.

Running Hare Vineyard | Prince Frederick, Maryland

If you’re dreaming of a destination wedding in Tuscany without the passport and plane ticket, Running Hare was made for you! With epic vineyard views and European inspired architecture, it’s hard to believe this one-of-a-kind property is tucked away right here in Calvert County. Be sure to build in plenty of portrait time, because there’s no shortage of beautiful photo ops!

The Barn at Pleasant Acres | St. Leonard, Maryland

The Barn has quickly become one of my favorites! Even in the dead of winter, it’s absolutely stunning. From a classic white covered porch, to rolling fields and greenery, to the beautiful stonework of the barn itself, there are no shortage of portrait locations on the property! Best of all, though, is the venue staff. They go above and beyond to care for their couples, guests, and vendors visiting the property!

The owner’s home in front of the venue has the most perfect light in the afternoon!
The stonework on the sides of the barn give the space an elevated feel.

The Pavilion at Weatherly | Newburg, Maryland

If you’re looking for rustic charm with a breathtaking waterfront ceremony space, Weatherly Farm is the venue for you! From a photographer’s perspective, this venue is a dream. The reception pavilion is fully covered so that you’re protected in inclement weather, yet the sides are open, allowing beautiful natural light to pour in. There’s such a variety of portrait locations, though my favorite might be the big back porch!

Flora Corner Farm | Mechanicsville, Maryland

Imagine exchanging vows under this tree at Flora Corner Farm!

I’ve been wanting to visit Flora Corner Farm for YEARS and finally had the opportunity this summer! The property absolutely did not disappoint. So many gorgeous portrait locations tucked away across the grounds! The owner, Diane, is so kind and thoughtful, and truly goes above and beyond for her couples with furniture, table settings, and even escort displays available for use.

Olde Breton Inn | Leonardtown, Maryland

I honestly can’t decide what I like most about Olde Breton Inn! This venue is so photographer-friendly, with ample natural light throughout the facility and bright, neutral walls in the ballroom. Did I mention the way the back lawn glows at sunset? Just be sure to plan your ceremony about 2-3 hours prior to sunset to avoid harsh light and high temperatures, as there’s no shade at the ceremony site!

Swan Point Yacht and Country Club | Issue, Maryland

Swan Point is an excellent southern Maryland venue for a couple with a classic style. The ballroom boasts ample natural light, white walls, and crystal chandeliers, while the ceremony space overlooks the water. There are beautiful portrait locations on the golf course, as well as a back patio perfect for cocktail hour!

Robin Hill Farm | Brandywine, Maryland

The ceremony space at Robin Hill is BREATHTAKING!

Can you believe this ceremony space?! The light is amazing, and it’s just a short walk from the reception barn and vineyards! Robin Hill is a working farm and winery, so your guests will be treated to epic views and delicious wine at your reception.

Honorable Mentions!

These are southern Maryland venues that I haven’t worked at professionally (yet!), but that I’ve attended a wedding at as a guest and LOVED. If you’re getting married at one of these venues, let’s chat! I’m always looking for new venues to explore!
