An Intimate Autumn Red Fox Inn Wedding

Maren & Justin

I’ve been looking forward to Maren and Justin’s Red Fox Inn wedding ever since they first booked me as their wedding photographer earlier this year! As the day approached, the forecast wasn’t what any of us hoped it would be. Steady rain and storms were predicted all day long in Middleburg, Virginia, but luckily, Maren and Justin hired a top-notch wedding team dedicated to bringing their vision to life, regardless of the weather!

We began the day photographing all the pretty details while Maren and her girls got ready. It began to pour just as I arrived at the venue, but even with the rain, the beauty of Red Fox Inn took my breath away! Every corner of the property is absolutely stunning, featuring European-inspired architecture, picturesque vignettes, and secret gardens. It’s a photographer’s dream, even on a rainy day!

We spotted a break in the rain coming in a few hours, so we came up with a Plan B. Instead of the usual order of events, we’d hold cocktail hour as soon as guests arrived, buying us time for the ground to dry out. Then we’d hold the ceremony right at sunset, PRAYING that the rain would hold off. We held our breath waiting for the rain to stop just long enough for Maren and Justin’s first look. Sure enough it finally did, and the plan was put in motion!

That first look absolutely SAVED their wedding day portraits. If they’d decided not to see each other until after the ceremony, we would’ve had absolutely no daylight to work with. First looks are an insurance policy against bad weather, and this wedding day was proof of that! We were able to get all of the must-have portraits done in pockets of time when it wasn’t raining, with plenty of downtime for soaking in the moment. Flower girl Reese, Justin’s niece, carefully held Maren’s dress as she made her way to the ceremony, and it instantly became one of my favorite moments of the day.

Maren and Justin chose Red Fox Inn as their wedding venue chiefly for its beautiful outdoor spaces. They’d dreamed of an outdoor ceremony, and their vendor team was determined to make it happen! Their ceremony was emotional and heartfelt, with Maren’s vows bringing both hearty laughs and tears from Justin. I’m so glad they were able to have that moment just as they’d envisioned!

This has been the year of bold, vibrant color palettes, and Maren and Justin’s wedding was no exception. Their reception was filled with warm autumn tones, featuring velvet purple linens, tall taper candles, and dancing bistro lights overhead. The rest of the evening was filled with toasts in the couple’s honor, and I honestly don’t think they ever stopped smiling!

Maren and Justin, thank you so much for trusting me to document this beautiful day. Cheers to you!
