I absolutely love working with the McGlohn family! This was my fourth time photographing them and every single time I do, it gets better! There’s something so beautiful about working with a family over and over again. I’m able to build incredible relationships with them and everyone is more relaxed and knows what to expect as we have a portrait session. This year, we planned a family portrait session in Solomons, Maryland and it was a dream! 

Southern Maryland Family Portraits  

We met at a historic home in Solomons that’s next door to their property. The waterfront home dates back to the 1700’s and is overflowing with charm – towering magnolias, a pea gravel driveway and a hedge maze that the kids loved exploring… seriously a dream for me to work around. The McGlohns absolutely rocked their outfits, too. Mom wore a fun fall dress and the rest of the outfits were based on these colors in her dress – greens, brown, and tans. They all looked amazing during their Southern Maryland family portraits on the historic property! 

Perhaps my favorite thing about this family portrait session is how authentic and real the images feel. Looking at them, I can feel the joy that this family radiates. That’s what matters most to me when capturing family portraits. My best advice for authentic family portraits is to allow time for play! We never spend much time sitting and smiling, instead focusing on the relationships between family members. I loved watching this family play – with the blanket, with each other, and just enjoying the day together. It was perfect! 

To the McGlohn family: thank you for trusting me with your family portraits again. I can’t wait to see you next year and see how much the kids have grown up. It’s always so special to work with you and I absolutely adore this year’s Southern Maryland family portraits!
